RW2 to JPG Converter
Lumix cameras save raw photos as .RW2, a Panasonic format that phones, browsers and many editors cannot open. Convert them here to JPG files you can share, print or upload, straight from the card.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.

What RW2 is and which Lumix cameras use it
RW2 is Panasonic's raw format. Early Lumix compacts wrote raw files with a plain .RAW extension; RW2 took over around 2008, the year the Lumix G1 launched the Micro Four Thirds system. Since then every Lumix that shoots raw, from the GH video bodies and the G9 to the full-frame S1, S5 and their successors, saves .RW2 files.
Like every raw format, an RW2 file holds the sensor's readings plus a small embedded preview, not a finished picture. That is why the file opens only in software that knows the specific camera model. Lightroom, Capture One and the free SILKYPIX Developer Studio SE all read RW2, but each needs an update before it supports a newly released body, and phones, browsers and online forms do not read it at all.

Panasonic Raw
Panasonic Raw (RW2) is the raw image format written by Panasonic cameras. It is used by Panasonic Lumix cameras, including the G and S series. A raw file stores the sensor data before the camera applies white balance, sharpening and compression, which leaves far more room to recover highlights, shadows and colour when editing. Files are large and cannot be shared directly on websites, social networks or most phones. Lightroom, Capture One, darktable and the manufacturer's own software open them, but plain image viewers often show only a small embedded preview or nothing at all.

JPEG image
JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

Lumix shooters convert RW2 to JPG when photos must leave the raw workflow, for sharing, printing or a client gallery, and the software at hand does not recognize Panasonic raw files from their camera body.
How RW2 files become JPGs here
Converting raw means developing it: demosaicing the sensor pattern, applying white balance and a tone curve, and rendering the result in sRGB. The converter uses neutral settings and the white balance recorded by the camera, which gives a faithful starting point rather than a stylized look. If you want to shape exposure, shadows or color per picture, do that in a raw developer and treat this page as the fast path for everything that only needs to be viewable.
Micro Four Thirds bodies shoot in 4:3, so their JPGs are taller than the 3:2 frames from full-frame Lumix S cameras or most phones; crop afterward if a print lab or layout expects 3:2. Strip metadata is on by default and removes GPS and camera details; untick it under Advanced settings to keep exposure data and capture dates in the JPG. For raw files from other brands, the RAW to JPG converter accepts Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and more, and DNG to JPG covers Adobe's open raw format.

- A Lumix feature that shifts the sensor between several exposures and merges them into one RW2 with far more pixels, such as 80 MP on the G9 or 187 MP on the S1R. It needs a still subject, usually on a tripod.
RW2 to JPG questions
Why can't Photoshop or Lightroom open my new Lumix RW2 files?
Adobe adds each new camera to Camera Raw in an update, so a body released after your version was installed is not recognized even though older RW2 files open fine. Updating the software fixes it; converting here works without any update.
Does Panasonic have its own RW2 converter?
Panasonic points Lumix owners to SILKYPIX Developer Studio SE, a free raw developer for their cameras, and many Lumix bodies can also develop RW2 to JPEG in the playback menu. Both work file by file with full controls; this page is quicker for a batch with standard settings.
Will the JPG look like the JPEG my Lumix saved?
Close, but not identical. The camera applies its Photo Style, such as Standard, Vivid or L.Monochrome, to its own JPEG; a raw converter starts from the sensor data and does not know that style. Expect slightly different contrast and color.
How big are JPGs made from High Resolution mode RW2 files?
Large. An 80-megapixel G9 high-resolution frame is 10368 × 7776 px, and the JPG often weighs tens of megabytes at quality 92. Set Resize output image to a longest side of 4000 px or so for sharing.
Can Windows show RW2 thumbnails without converting?
With the free Raw Image Extension from the Microsoft Store, Windows Photos and File Explorer can preview many raw formats, RW2 among them. That helps you browse, but email, phones and upload forms still need a JPG.
