PPTX to PDF

Conference organizers, teachers and clients usually ask for the deck as a PDF: it opens on any device and nobody can accidentally move a slide. Convert the .pptx here and decide whether your speaker notes go with it.

Why event portals and teachers ask for PPTX as PDF

PowerPoint 2007 introduced the .pptx format, a ZIP package of XML slides, layouts, media and fonts that PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides and LibreOffice all read in their own way. That is fine while you are editing, but the moment a deck leaves your hands it starts to drift: a custom font is missing on the venue laptop, a chart is redrawn with different colors, or a reviewer edits a number by accident.

A PDF closes those gaps. Conference speaker portals often request one as the archive copy of a talk, learning platforms preview PDFs inline so students do not have to download anything, and a client can forward a PDF to their board without wondering what else is hidden in the file. Fonts are embedded on this page, so a typeface you licensed travels with the slides.

Decks tend to be heavier than documents because each slide is built around a photo or screenshot. That is why Image quality starts at 80 here instead of 90; on a projector or laptop screen you will not see the difference, but the file shrinks noticeably. If a portal still rejects the upload, reduce the slider further or use Compress PDF on the result.

What page size the PDF gets

13.33 × 7.5 inDefault widescreen 16:9 slide size since PowerPoint 2013, and the page size your PDF gets from such a deck

Older 4:3 decks are 10 × 7.5 in. With Page size on Same as source, each PDF page matches the slide size stored in the .pptx.

PPTX

Microsoft PowerPoint presentation

PPTX is Microsoft PowerPoint's default presentation format since Office 2007, based on the Office Open XML standard. It stores slides, layouts, images, charts, speaker notes, transitions and embedded media in a ZIP package of XML. It is the most widely used format for slide decks in business and education. Google Slides, Keynote and LibreOffice Impress open PPTX, though fonts, animations and layout may change slightly.

Portable Document Format

PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

A .pptx is a live slide show that needs PowerPoint or a compatible app and can be edited by whoever opens it; a PDF hands over the finished slides, with or without notes, as pages anyone can read or print.

Slides only, slides with notes, or a slide range

  • Readers get the spoken context
  • Pages switch to a document layout
  • Review notes for private remarks first
Best for: Students who missed the lecture, internal training
Subset

Page range

Only the slide numbers you list, in their original order.

  • Drops backup and appendix slides
  • Accepts lists like 1-8, 12
  • Works with or without notes
Best for: Sharing the part you actually presented

PPTX to PDF questions

Why does the PDF look slightly softer than the slides on my screen?

Photos are recompressed at Image quality 80 on this page, which keeps decks small enough for email. Move the slider to 90 or 100 for a print-quality handout; text, shapes and charts stay sharp at any setting.

Can I export only the slides I actually presented?

Yes. Set Pages to Page range and type the slide numbers, such as 1-8, 12, 15-20. The numbers refer to the slide order in the .pptx, so skipped backup slides are simply left out.

Do hyperlinks in the slides still work in the PDF?

Links to web pages stay clickable. Action buttons that jump between slides or start a macro are part of the slide show engine and do nothing in a PDF.

How do I convert a Google Slides deck?

In Google Slides, choose File, Download, Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx), then convert that file here. Slides can also download a PDF directly, but you will not get the speaker notes or page range choices.

The deck has a portrait layout. Will it be rotated?

No. Orientation is set to Same as source, so a portrait deck becomes portrait pages and a widescreen deck becomes landscape pages.

I need the slides as images instead of a PDF.

Use PPTX to JPG for one picture per slide, which suits social posts and thumbnails. For an older .ppt deck, go to PPT to PDF.
