Compress Video to 100 MB
Convert a clip to a widely playable MP4 and make sure the result never crosses 100 MB, even when the new codec would normally make the file grow.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Lower is better quality and a bigger file. 18 looks identical to the source, 23 is the default, 28 and above shows visible softening.
Frames per second. Keep the source rate unless a platform asks for a specific one; 15–20 fps is plenty for GIFs.
Only used for PowerPoint files and single still images: how long each slide or picture stays on screen.
Auto uses AAC for MP4/MOV and Opus for WebM. Copy keeps the original sound untouched when the new format supports it.
192 kbps is transparent for music; 128 kbps is enough for speech.
Width of the animation in pixels; height follows the aspect ratio. 480 px suits chats, 720 px or more gives a high-quality GIF but a much larger file.
GIF holds at most 256 colors. Fewer colors make a smaller file but cause banding on gradients and skin tones.
Mixes palette colors in a fine pattern to hide banding. Sierra gives the smoothest result; none gives the smallest file.
Whether the animation repeats endlessly or plays one time and stops.
Optional. Seconds (e.g. 75) or minutes:seconds (1:15). Leave empty to start at the beginning.
Optional. Same format as the start time. Leave empty to keep everything up to the end.
The converted file will be at or just under this size.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the video
Add MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM or MP4 files of up to 95 MB each, 20 per batch. Larger files are refused by the uploader, so split or re-export them first.
- 2
Keep the 100 MB ceiling
Limit file size is on and Maximum size reads 100 MB. Lower it to 50 or 25 for a stricter portal; leave Video codec on H.264 for the widest playback.
- 3
Convert to MP4
Press Convert to MP4. The download is an MP4 at or just under your ceiling.
How do I compress a video to 100 MB?
If the file is under 95 MB, upload it and press Convert to MP4: the page converts to H.264 with a 100 MB ceiling, so the result can never grow past it. Files over 95 MB cannot be uploaded here, so re-export or split them first.
When a video has to stay under 100 MB
A 100 MB rule usually shows up in tools rather than social apps. Developers hit it when they commit a demo clip to a repository, teachers when a form collects video homework, and community moderators on boosted Discord servers. In each case the check is binary: one byte over and the file is rejected.
The trap is that the most common fix for playback makes files larger. iPhones record HEVC by default, and the H.264 version every Windows PC and web form accepts needs more bits for the same picture. Converting a 70 MB phone clip without a ceiling can give 120 MB, which is why this page combines the format change with a size limit.
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub repositories | Pushes containing a file over 100 MiB are blocked; Git LFS is needed for larger files | — |
| Google Forms file upload | The form owner picks a per-file maximum of 1 MB, 10 MB, 100 MB, 1 GB or 10 GB | — |
| Discord server at boost level 3 | Every member can attach files up to 100 MB | — |
| This converter | 95 MB per uploaded file, up to 20 files per batch | — |

MP4
MPEG-4 video
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) is a multimedia container standardised by ISO/MPEG and based on Apple's QuickTime format. It usually holds H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio, and can also carry subtitles, chapters and metadata. It is the most compatible video format in the world, playing on phones, browsers, TVs, game consoles and social platforms. The video inside is almost always lossy, so repeated re-encoding gradually reduces quality.

Any video goes to a capped MP4 when the destination counts megabytes: a repository, a form or a server rejects the file at 100 MB, and an uncapped H.264 conversion of a phone clip can easily overshoot that line.
How the 100 MB size limit is applied
Read the clip
The duration of the upload sets the bitrate budget: 800 megabits shared across every second.
Encode under budget
Video bitrate is lowered as far as needed for the file to fit, with audio at your chosen bitrate.
Capped MP4
You download an H.264 MP4 at or just under 100 MB.
How many minutes of video fit in 100 MB
Duration decides how good the result can look. At YouTube's recommended upload rate of 8 Mbps for 1080p, 100 MB holds about 100 seconds; at 4 Mbps it holds about three minutes and 20 seconds, and 720p at 2.5 Mbps stretches to over five minutes. Past those lengths, lowering Resolution keeps the picture cleaner than forcing more pixels through a thin bitrate.
If the source is an iPhone clip, you can also keep HEVC by switching Video codec to H.265 / HEVC: the cap is easier to meet, but the recipient needs an HEVC-capable player. The compress video tool covers general size reduction, and the Discord and email guide lists the smaller limits of chat apps and mail services.
Questions about compressing video to 100 MB
Can I compress a 500 MB video to 100 MB here?
No. Each upload is limited to 95 MB, so a 500 MB file is refused before any conversion starts. Re-export it at 720p from the app that made it, record the next one at a lower resolution, or cut it into parts under 95 MB and convert each part.
Why would a video under 100 MB need a 100 MB limit?
Because conversion can make a file grow. An 80 MB HEVC clip from an iPhone often becomes well over 100 MB as H.264, and a re-encode at Quality (CRF) 18 for editing grows too. The ceiling keeps the compatible MP4 inside the limit of the place you are sending it.
Does the 100 MB include the soundtrack?
Yes, the limit covers the whole file. Audio at the default 192 kbps takes about 1.4 MB per minute, so a five-minute clip spends roughly 7 MB on sound. Choose 128 kbps for speech, or tick Remove audio for a silent screen capture, to leave more room for the picture.
Will the MP4 be exactly 100 MB?
It lands at or just under the Maximum size you set. A short clip that already fits at normal quality comes out smaller, because the limit is a ceiling, not a target the encoder has to fill.
How do I get a video under 25 MB for Gmail instead?
Gmail attaches files up to 25 MB and turns anything larger into a Drive link. Set Maximum size to 25 here, or use compress video to 10 MB for chat apps with tighter limits.
Which resolution should I pick for a long video?
Work out the bitrate budget first: 100 MB is about 800 megabits, so a ten-minute clip averages around 1.3 Mbps. That is too little for crisp 1080p, so set Resolution to 720p; the 1080p to 720p converter explains what the smaller frame costs.
