WOFF to OTF Converter
Every WOFF file wraps either a TrueType font or a PostScript-flavored OpenType font. When the font inside is the PostScript kind, converting to OTF simply gives it back in its native form, curves, hints and all.

Removing scripts you don't use can shrink a web font from hundreds of KB to under 30 KB. Keep all characters for fonts you install on a computer.
Paste the text or characters the font must cover, e.g. a logo word or a headline. Everything else is removed.
Hints sharpen small text on Windows screens. Removing them often saves 10–30% on web fonts; auto-hint adds them to fonts that have none.
Leave empty to keep the original. Renaming lets you install the converted font next to the original without a conflict.
E.g. Regular, Bold, Italic. Leave empty to keep the original style name.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload WOFF fonts
Add .woff files, up to 20 in one batch and 95 MB each. A mixed set of CFF and TrueType web fonts is fine.
- 2
Keep OTF as the target
Convert to is set to OTF. Hinting on Keep preserves any PostScript hints the WOFF carried; Auto-hint adds hints to fonts that arrive without them.
- 3
Convert to OTF
Press Convert to OTF, save the files and install them with a double-click. Close and reopen design apps so their font menus refresh.
If the WOFF was made from an OTF, this conversion is an exact unwrap. If it was made from a TTF, the curves are rewritten in cubic form, which keeps their shape.
WOFF to OTF depends on the font's flavor
The WOFF 1.0 specification, a W3C Recommendation since 2012, defines a container rather than a new kind of font. Its header records the flavor of the font it carries, then lists each table with its compressed and original length. Foundries that drew their families in PostScript, the tradition behind most print type, exported CFF-flavored WOFF files for their web licenses. Foundries working in TrueType exported the other kind. Nothing in the .woff extension tells you which.
For a CFF-flavored file, converting to OTF means inflating the tables and writing them back out, so even the PostScript hints survive and Hinting on Keep is the right setting. For a TrueType-flavored file, the converter has to build a new CFF table: quadratic curves translate exactly into cubic ones, but TrueType instructions have no CFF counterpart and are dropped. That is not a defect, just a reason to prefer TTF output for those files.
Read the header
The converter checks the WOFF signature and the flavor field before touching any table.
Inflate the tables
Each zlib-compressed table is decompressed and its checksum verified.
Write the OTF
CFF fonts are written back as they were; TrueType fonts get a new cubic CFF table.
The OTTO tag: how to spot a CFF web font
OTTOthe flavor tag stored in bytes 5–8 of a WOFF that holds PostScript outlines
The tag comes from OpenType itself: every desktop .otf file with CFF outlines starts with the same four letters, and WOFF simply copies that value into its header. You do not have to check before uploading, since the converter reads it either way, but knowing the flavor helps you pick between this page and WOFF to TTF, or explain why one family arrives with hints and another without.
The same choice exists for the newer format. A .woff2 file also records its flavor, and the font converter handles it the same way, with Brotli in place of zlib.

WOFF
Web Open Font Format
WOFF is a web font format created by Mozilla, Opera and Microsoft and published as a W3C Recommendation in 2012. It wraps TrueType or OpenType font data with compression and metadata for faster downloads. All browsers support WOFF, but it has been largely superseded by WOFF2, which compresses better. Desktop operating systems cannot install WOFF fonts directly.

OTF
OpenType font
OTF is the OpenType font format, created by Microsoft and Adobe in 1996 and now the ISO standard ISO/IEC 14496-22. It can contain TrueType or PostScript (CFF) outlines and supports advanced typography such as ligatures, alternates, small caps and wide language coverage. OpenType is the standard for professional fonts on all major platforms. It is not compressed for the web, so websites usually serve WOFF2 instead.

WOFF to OTF returns a web-wrapped font to the desktop as OpenType, which is an exact unwrap whenever the WOFF was built from a CFF font and the natural choice for print and Adobe workflows.
WOFF to OTF FAQ
Should I convert my WOFF to OTF or to TTF?
Follow the outlines inside the file. A WOFF whose header says OTTO holds CFF outlines and converts to OTF without touching a curve. One built from TrueType outlines installs just as well as WOFF to TTF, which avoids rewriting the glyphs.
How can I tell whether a WOFF contains CFF or TrueType outlines?
Look at the first eight bytes. Every WOFF starts with the signature wOFF, and the next four bytes name the flavor: OTTO for CFF outlines, or the binary version number 1.0 for TrueType. Any hex viewer, or xxd -l 8 in a terminal, shows them.
Is the OTF exactly the font the foundry started with?
Functionally yes, when the flavor is CFF: the same outlines, hints, metrics and features. The file is rebuilt from the decompressed tables, so its bytes and table order may differ from the foundry's original, which does not affect rendering.
Does OTF from WOFF work in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator?
Yes. Once installed, an OTF with CFF outlines is the kind of font Adobe's own type library uses, and InDesign and Illustrator list it with the rest of your fonts, including its OpenType features in the Glyphs and OpenType panels.
Why is the OTF larger than the WOFF I uploaded?
The WOFF was zlib-compressed and the OTF is not. Desktop fonts are stored uncompressed so the system can read them directly, so an increase is expected and does not mean anything was added.
