Character that separates columns in CSV and text files, for both reading and writing. Auto detects it from the input and writes commas.
UTF-8 works for every language. Choose UTF-8 with BOM if Excel on Windows shows garbled accents or Asian characters when opening the CSV.
Excel, ODS and Numbers input: convert the first sheet only, or every sheet (one CSV per sheet in a ZIP, or one JSON key per sheet).
Name of the sheet tab in the new spreadsheet, up to 31 characters.
Array of objects uses column names as keys for every row; array of arrays is more compact and keeps the header as the first array.
Name of the outer element that wraps all rows; each row becomes a <row> inside it.
Used in CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements. Letters, digits and underscores only.
Quoting and column types differ slightly between databases; pick the one you will import into.
Rewrite date cells in one format. ISO (2026-10-18) is safest for databases and code; keep leaves them as they appear in the source.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the vCard file
Add the .vcf your phone, iCloud, Google Contacts or Outlook exported. Up to 20 files of 95 MB each; several files land in one combined list per workbook.

Why put an address book into Excel
A phone shows contacts one at a time, which hides the problems in a list of 800 people: the same colleague saved three times, half the entries without an email, companies spelled four different ways. A spreadsheet shows them all at once. That is why small-business owners, assistants handing over a manager's contacts, and event organizers merging guest lists convert vCards to Excel before doing anything else with them.
Excel's own tools then do the work: sort by company, filter blanks in the email column, Remove Duplicates on the phone column, or a quick count of contacts per city. When the list is clean, it can go back to the phone as vCard or on to a CRM. For a straight import into another system without reviewing the data first, VCF to CSV is the shorter path.

vCard versions you may find in a VCF file
1996
vCard 2.1
Versit Consortium release. Still exported by some Android phones, with quoted-printable text for accented names.
1998
vCard 3.0
Published by the IETF as RFC 2426. The version iCloud and Google Contacts export today.
2011
vCard 4.0
RFC 6350 makes UTF-8 the only encoding and adds fields such as gender and anniversary.
All three versions convert the same way, so you do not need to know which one your phone wrote. The version matters only in odd cases: a 2.1 file from an old phone may contain names encoded as =C3=A9 sequences, which the converter decodes, and a 4.0 file may carry fields that older address books never had, which simply become extra columns.
VCF and XLSX format facts
VCF
vCard contact file
VCF files store contact information using the vCard standard, created by the Versit Consortium in 1995 and now maintained by the IETF. A single file can hold one or many contacts with names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, photos and notes. Phones, Gmail, Outlook and Apple Contacts all import and export VCF. Different vCard versions (2.1, 3.0 and 4.0) handle special characters and fields differently, which can cause minor issues when moving contacts.

XLSX
Microsoft Excel workbook
XLSX is Microsoft Excel's default workbook format since Office 2007, based on the Office Open XML standard. It stores multiple sheets, formulas, formatting, charts, pivot tables and data validation in a ZIP package of XML. It supports over a million rows per sheet and is the default exchange format for business spreadsheets. Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Numbers open XLSX, though macros and advanced features may not carry over.

People open VCF files in Excel to audit an address book: spot duplicates, missing emails and stale numbers, then clean the list before it goes back to a phone.
VCF to Excel questions
Can Excel open a VCF file directly?
Not as a table. Excel treats the .vcf as plain text, so you get one column of lines like TEL;TYPE=CELL:+1 512 555 0147 and every contact spread over a dozen rows. Converting first puts each contact on one row with a column per field.
Will leading zeros and plus signs in phone numbers survive?
Yes. Numbers like 07700 900123 or +49 30 1234567 are written as text cells, so Excel does not strip the zero or treat the plus sign as the start of a formula. That is the main advantage over opening a CSV, where Excel guesses the column type itself.
How do I find duplicate contacts after converting?
Sort by last name or email, or select the table and use Remove Duplicates on the Data tab, choosing the email or phone column as the key. Phones that synced with several accounts often hold the same person two or three times.
What is left out of the workbook?
Contact photos, which vCard stores as embedded Base64 images, and vendor-specific extension fields that start with X-. Everything a person reads, from names and numbers to addresses, birthdays and notes, is kept.
How do I turn the cleaned sheet back into contacts?
Use Excel to VCF. Keep the header names in row 1 as they are so each column maps back to the right vCard field, then import the new .vcf on your phone or in iCloud.
