PNG to PNG Converter
Converting a PNG into a PNG sounds pointless until an app rejects a file that clearly ends in .png. Re-saving it here writes a fresh, standard PNG with the pixels intact and the parts that cause trouble removed.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the problem PNGs
Add up to 20 files, 95 MB each: the one a form refuses, screenshots you want cleaned, or a batch that needs one size.
- 2
Pick what to change
Strip metadata and sRGB Color space are on by default. Under Advanced settings you can also set Resize output image, a grayscale color space or a DPI tag.
- 3
Press Convert to PNG
Download the new PNGs one by one or as a ZIP. Files are deleted from the server after 30 minutes.
Why convert PNG to PNG when the format stays the same
PNG has been a W3C Recommendation since 1996 and an ISO standard since 2004, and the third edition published in 2025 made APNG animation and EXIF chunks official. Over those years plenty of programs have written PNGs that other programs dislike: files with unusual chunks, wide-gamut color profiles, interlacing that small embedded decoders skip, or Apple's CgBI variant that Xcode creates for iOS app bundles and that ordinary viewers cannot open.
Upload forms add another layer. Some check the file's first bytes, not just its name, and refuse a JPEG that was renamed to .png, which happens constantly when images are saved from chats and websites. Re-encoding produces a file whose content and extension agree.
Four PNG fixes in one re-save
Repair a fake or odd PNG
JPEG data behind a .png name, CgBI files from app bundles and oddly chunked exports come back as plain, standard PNG.
Strip private metadata
Camera EXIF, GPS position, software tags and comments are dropped, which matters for screenshots and photos you post publicly.
Normalize color and size
Display P3 becomes sRGB, and Resize output image gives a whole batch the same width or longest side.
Set the DPI value
Write 300 into the DPI tag when a print form reads it. Pixel dimensions do not change.

Portable Network Graphics
PNG is a lossless raster format published in 1996 by the PNG Development Group and later standardised by the W3C and ISO. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports full alpha transparency and handles text, sharp edges and flat colours without artefacts. That precision makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and interface graphics. The trade-off is size: photographs saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. All browsers, operating systems and editors open PNG files.

People run a PNG through a PNG converter to repair or normalize it rather than to change format: a file that apps reject, a screenshot with private metadata, colors tagged for a wide-gamut screen, or a JPEG hiding behind a .png name.
PNG to PNG and file size
Re-saving alone rarely makes a big difference to size. Stripping metadata removes a few kilobytes, more when an editor stored a thumbnail or a large XMP packet. A genuine JPEG that was renamed .png will usually grow when it becomes a real PNG, because lossless storage of a photo costs more bytes.
If the goal is a smaller file, change the pixels rather than the container: resize to the dimensions the page actually shows, or reduce the color palette with a compressor. For photos, a different format is the honest answer, and PNG to WebP keeps transparency at a fraction of the size.
PNG to PNG questions
Why would I convert PNG to PNG?
To get a standard, clean copy of the same image. Typical reasons are a file that a website calls invalid, a screenshot that carries location or software metadata, colors that look washed out in another app, or a batch that must share one width or DPI value.
How can I tell if my .png is really a JPEG?
Open it in a hex viewer or a text editor and look at the first bytes. A real PNG starts with ‰PNG; a JPEG starts with the bytes FF D8 FF, which most editors display as ÿØÿ. Most viewers open both, so the mismatch only surfaces at a strict uploader.
Does re-saving a PNG reduce its quality?
No. PNG compression is lossless, so decoding and encoding again returns exactly the same pixels. The image only changes if you ask for it, by resizing, switching to grayscale or converting a wide-gamut profile to sRGB.
Can this turn a 24-bit PNG into an 8-bit palette PNG?
Not on this page; it keeps full color. Reducing a PNG to a palette of 256 or fewer colors is a compression job, and compress PNG to 100 KB does it with its lossy PNG mode.
Why does my PNG look dull in one app and fine in another?
Screenshots from recent Macs and iPhones are often tagged with the Display P3 profile. Apps that ignore color profiles show those colors as if they were sRGB, which flattens reds and greens. Converting to sRGB, the default here, makes the file look the same everywhere.
What happens to an animated PNG?
An APNG is saved as a still PNG of its first frame by default. Choose Export every frame as a separate file under Animated input if you need each frame, or use PNG to GIF to keep the animation in a format older apps play.
