MP3 to OGG Converter
Game engines, modding tools and open-source projects often ask for Ogg Vorbis instead of MP3. Convert your tracks and sound effects here and drop the .ogg files straight into the project's audio folder.

Constant bitrate (CBR) gives a predictable size and works on every player. Variable bitrate (VBR) spends bits where the music needs them and is usually smaller at the same quality.
Keep the source rate unless a device asks for one. 44.1 kHz is CD standard, 48 kHz is video standard, 8 kHz is used by phone systems and AMR.
Mono halves the size of lossless files and is fine for voice recordings.
16-bit is CD quality. 24-bit keeps headroom for editing and mastering; converting a 16-bit source up does not add detail.
Optional. Seconds (e.g. 75) or minutes:seconds (1:15). Leave empty to start at the beginning.
Optional. Same format as the start time. Leave empty to keep everything up to the end.
How to use this tool
- 1
Select your MP3s
Add music, ambience or sound effects as .mp3, up to 20 files per batch and 95 MB each.
- 2
Keep VBR at 192 kbps
Bitrate mode is Variable (VBR) at about 192 kbps, the natural mode for Vorbis. Lower it to 128 kbps for background ambience or short effects.
- 3
Convert to OGG
Press Convert to OGG and download the ZIP. Unpack it into your project's audio or sounds folder and re-import.
How do I convert MP3 to OGG for a game project?
Upload the MP3 files, keep Convert to on OGG with VBR around 192 kbps and press Convert to OGG. The result is Ogg Vorbis, which Godot, Unity and RPG Maker import directly.
Why game engines prefer OGG over MP3
For years, shipping MP3 decoding inside a product meant paying patent royalties. Ogg Vorbis did not, so game studios, engine developers and open-source projects standardized on it early, and the habit stuck. Today many asset pipelines, templates and tutorials still assume .ogg for music and longer sounds, and a few tools accept nothing else.
There are practical reasons too. Vorbis packs audio well at variable bitrates and loops cleanly, because it does not insert the encoder delay that MP3 adds at the start of every file. Firefox and Chrome play Ogg Vorbis natively in an <audio> element, which made it a long-standing choice for HTML5 games, often with an MP3 fallback for browsers that lack it.
Sound packs bought or downloaded as MP3 are where the conversion comes in. Convert them in a batch here, unzip the result into the project, and the engine imports them without plugins. The reverse page, OGG to MP3, turns game audio back into something any phone can play.
Convert MP3 to OGG for Godot, Unity and other tools
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Godot Engine 4 | Imports WAV, Ogg Vorbis and MP3; the docs suggest Ogg Vorbis for music and WAV for short effects | godotengine.org |
| Unity | Imports .ogg, .mp3, .wav and .aif, then recompresses per platform on import | unity.com |
| RPG Maker MZ | Music and sound files in the project's audio folders are .ogg | rpgmakerweb.com |
| Minecraft Java Edition | Resource pack sounds must be Ogg Vorbis | minecraft.net |
Checklist before importing the OGG files
- File names are lowercase with no spaces, which avoids path problems on Linux and web servers
- Positional sound effects are mono; music and ambience can stay stereo
- Sample rate matches the rest of the project, usually 44.1 or 48 kHz
- Loops are trimmed so no silence is left at the start or end
- Loudness is consistent across tracks; Normalise volume helps with mixed sources
- The original MP3s are kept, in case you need to convert again at another bitrate
MP3 vs OGG: format details
MP3
MP3 audio
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) is a lossy audio format developed largely at the Fraunhofer Institute and standardised by MPEG in 1993. It removes sounds the ear is unlikely to notice, shrinking music to about a tenth of CD size at 128–320 kbps. All patents have expired, and every phone, car stereo, browser and media player supports it. Quality loss is audible at low bitrates and accumulates with re-encoding.

OGG
Ogg Vorbis audio
OGG files use the Ogg container from the Xiph.Org Foundation, most often with the lossy Vorbis codec and sometimes Opus or FLAC. Vorbis is open and royalty-free and sounds comparable to or better than MP3 at similar bitrates. It is widely used for game audio, open-source software and some streaming services. Older iPhones, some car stereos and many editors do not support OGG.

MP3 is the format most music and sound libraries download in, but game engines, Minecraft resource packs and many open-source tools are built around royalty-free Ogg Vorbis, so the conversion is usually a project requirement rather than a preference.
MP3 to OGG questions
Does converting MP3 to OGG reduce quality?
Slightly, because MP3 and Vorbis are both lossy and the audio is encoded a second time. Keep the bitrate at or above the MP3's own, and the difference is very hard to hear. If you still have the WAV or FLAC master, convert that instead with WAV to OGG.
Why do Minecraft resource packs need OGG?
Minecraft Java Edition loads its sounds as Ogg Vorbis files, so custom music or effects in a resource pack must be .ogg to play. Mono files are needed for sounds that should come from a position in the world; stereo plays without direction. Set Channels to Mono for those.
Should I choose Ogg Vorbis or Opus for a game?
Check what the engine imports. Godot, Unity and RPG Maker all read Ogg Vorbis, which is what this page writes. Opus is newer and better at low bitrates, but engine support is less consistent; for web voice chat or very small files, MP3 to Opus is the option.
Is Ogg Vorbis free to use in a commercial game?
Yes. Xiph.Org released the Vorbis specification into the public domain and the reference libraries under a BSD-style license, so there are no royalties for shipping it. MP3's patents have also expired, so licensing no longer decides between them; engine support and file size do.
Will the OGG loop seamlessly like my MP3 did not?
Often better. MP3 encoders add a short gap of silence at the start and end of each file, which makes loops click. Vorbis does not pad that way, so music and ambience converted from MP3 usually loop more cleanly, though any silence already baked into the MP3 stays. Trim it with Start at and End at if needed.
