JPG to EPS Converter
Place a JPG photo where only EPS is accepted: a LaTeX document compiled with dvips, a print template or an older layout workflow. The picture is embedded as a bitmap inside Encapsulated PostScript, tagged at 300 DPI so it lands at a sensible print size.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.

Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the JPG photos
Add up to 20 .jpg or .jpeg files, 95 MB each. Use the largest original you have; pixels cannot be added later.
- 2
Check the DPI tag
Under Advanced settings, DPI tag is set to 300 and Color space to Keep original, so CMYK JPGs from a print workflow stay CMYK.
- 3
Convert to EPS
Press Convert to EPS and download the .eps files for your document or print job.
JPG to EPS changes the wrapper, not the picture: the same pixels, placed in a PostScript file with a print size attached.
JPG to EPS for LaTeX and print layouts
Adobe published version 3.0 of the Encapsulated PostScript specification in 1992, and for the next two decades EPS was how graphics moved between applications: illustration programs, page layout software, image setters and TeX. The classic LaTeX route, latex followed by dvips, still accepts nothing but EPS for \includegraphics. Thesis templates, journal style files and print-shop job tickets written in that era often ask for EPS figures by name.
The JPG itself is fine for those jobs, it just arrives in the wrong envelope. Converting puts the photo inside an EPS with a bounding box, so every tool that reads EPS places it at the size you intend.

JPEG image
JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

EPS
Encapsulated PostScript
EPS is a PostScript-based graphics file from Adobe, long used to exchange vector artwork with printers and publishers. It can contain vectors, text and embedded raster images along with a low-resolution preview. EPS does not support transparency, and modern software has largely replaced it with PDF and SVG. Opening it typically requires Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity Designer or a Ghostscript-based tool, and browsers cannot display it.

A JPG is wrapped in EPS when a LaTeX build, a print template or a layout tool only accepts PostScript graphics, and the photo has to be placed at a fixed print size; EPS goes to JPG the other way, to preview vector artwork on screen.
A JPG inside EPS is still a photo, not vector art
The most common surprise is expecting EPS to make a picture sharp at any size. EPS is a container that can hold vector paths, but a JPG has only pixels, so that is all the EPS can contain. Placed at 300 DPI it prints crisply at the sizes in the table above; stretched to a poster it blurs exactly as the JPG would.
If the JPG is a logo, diagram or signature rather than a photo, tracing gives you real vector shapes instead. How to convert PNG to SVG explains when tracing works, and the same advice applies to JPG sources with clean edges.
CMYK, the DPI tag and the EPS bounding box
Two settings decide whether the EPS behaves in print. DPI tag sets the physical size: at 300, a 2100 px wide JPG becomes a 7 inch figure. Color space on Keep original passes a CMYK JPG through unchanged; an ordinary camera JPG stays RGB.
Whether RGB is acceptable depends on the printer. Digital presses and most online print services convert RGB on their side; offset printers with strict prepress rules may ask for CMYK. Ask once, and if CMYK is required, convert in an editor with the profile they give you before you create the EPS.
JPG to EPS questions
Will my JPG become a scalable vector in EPS?
No. EPS can hold vectors, but a photo has none to give it, so the file contains the same grid of pixels inside a PostScript wrapper. Enlarging it in a layout still blurs it. For logos and line art that must scale, trace the JPG with the image to SVG converter first.
How do I include the converted EPS in a LaTeX document?
Load the graphicx package and write \includegraphics[width=\linewidth]{photo.eps}. With latex and dvips the EPS is used directly. With pdflatex, current TeX distributions convert it to PDF on the fly through epstopdf, so the same source compiles both ways.
Why does the EPS print at the wrong size?
An EPS has a bounding box measured in points, 72 per inch, and the image is scaled to fill it. The DPI tag decides that box: 3000 px at 300 DPI is 10 inches wide, but the same pixels tagged 72 DPI make a box almost 42 inches wide. Set DPI tag to the resolution your printer expects before converting.
Can this converter turn an RGB JPG into a CMYK EPS?
No. A good CMYK conversion needs the print shop's ICC profile and is done in a layout or image editor. Keep original preserves CMYK if the JPG already has it, and sRGB is used otherwise. Many printers accept RGB and convert it themselves; ask before you spend time on it.
Why won't Word or PowerPoint insert my EPS file?
Microsoft disabled EPS import in Office in 2017 after security flaws in its PostScript filter. Current Office versions refuse EPS files. For slides and documents, place the original JPG or a PNG instead and keep the EPS for print and LaTeX.
Can the EPS have a transparent background?
Not from a JPG. JPG has no alpha channel, so the photo is an opaque rectangle inside the EPS. To place a logo over a colored page, trace it to vector artwork and then use SVG to EPS, which keeps real shapes and an empty background.
- PNG to EPS ConverterWrap PNG images in EPS files for print shops, LaTeX with dvips and older layout workflows. Choose the background fill; 20 files per batch, no account.
- SVG to EPS ConverterConvert SVG to EPS online for print shops, vector stock sites and LaTeX figures. Transparency is flattened onto the color you pick. 20 files per batch.
- EPS to JPG ConverterConvert EPS vector files to JPG at the pixel width you choose, on a white background. For Office, Google Slides, websites and email. 20 files per batch.
- JPG to TIFF ConverterConvert JPG to TIFF when a printer, publisher or archive asks for TIFF. Sets a 300 DPI tag, keeps the color profile, 20 images at once.
- EPS to PDF ConverterConvert EPS to PDF free: stock vectors, old logos and print artwork are rendered from their PostScript code, not the low-resolution preview. No account.
- EPS to PNG ConverterConvert EPS to PNG at the pixel width you choose, with a transparent background around the artwork. For logos, stock vectors and print files. Batch of 20.
