HTML to CSV Converter

Copying a table from a browser into Excel drags along fonts, links, merged cells and the odd image. Converting the saved page to CSV gives you only the values, one row per table row, ready to sort and chart.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Save the web page

Press Ctrl+S or Cmd+S in the browser and keep the .html file, or export the report page your intranet shows. Upload up to 20 files, 95 MB each.

  2. 2

    Keep the Excel-friendly encoding

This page writes UTF-8 with BOM so Excel on Windows shows accents correctly. Under Advanced settings switch Text encoding to plain UTF-8 for databases and scripts, or Delimiter to Semicolon for European Excel.

  3. 3

    Convert to CSV

Press Convert to CSV, download the file and open or import it in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or your BI tool.

Getting a web table into a spreadsheet

Analysts meet HTML tables everywhere: a supplier's price page, a sports stats site, a government statistics release with no download button, the monthly report an internal tool renders but never exports. The numbers are right there, but a browser table cannot be summed, filtered or joined to anything.

CSV is the neutral destination. Every spreadsheet, database and analytics tool imports it, and its rules were written down as RFC 4180 in 2005. Once the rows are in CSV, CSV to XLSX turns them into a workbook with typed cells when you need to hand the data on. If the table is headed for code rather than a spreadsheet, JSON is the better target.

HTML and CSV format details

HTML

HyperText Markup Language

HTML is the markup language of the web, first described by Tim Berners-Lee in the early 1990s and now maintained by WHATWG as a living standard. An HTML file describes headings, paragraphs, links, tables, images and forms, while styling usually comes from CSS. Every browser renders it, and it is also used for email templates and saved web pages. A single HTML file often depends on external images and stylesheets, so it may look broken when moved on its own.

CSV

Comma-separated values

CSV is a plain-text format for tables in which each line is a row and commas separate the columns. It has been used since the early days of computing and is described in RFC 4180, though many variants use semicolons or tabs and different text encodings. Nearly every spreadsheet, database and analytics tool can import and export it, which makes it the default format for moving data between systems. CSV stores only values, with no formulas, formatting, multiple sheets or data types.

CSV converter

HTML is converted to CSV when a table someone published on a web page or intranet report has to be filtered, totalled or charted in a spreadsheet, without the links, colors and layout the page added for reading.

HTML to CSV questions

Why not copy and paste the table into Excel?

A paste carries HTML formatting: hyperlinks, background colors, line breaks inside cells and sometimes images. It also lets Excel reinterpret values on the spot, so a range like 3-4 can turn into a date. A CSV holds plain text values that you import on your own terms.

What does Google Sheets IMPORTHTML do differently?

IMPORTHTML pulls a table from a public URL into a sheet and refreshes it. It cannot reach pages behind a login, such as an intranet report or a logged-in dashboard. Saving that page as a file and converting it works regardless of where it came from.

How do I stop Excel from turning codes into dates or dropping zeros?

Excel guesses types when it opens a CSV directly. Import it instead through Data, From Text/CSV, and set columns such as ZIP codes, part numbers or ranges like 1-2 to Text before loading.

Are hyperlinks kept in the CSV?

The visible link text is kept as the cell value; the address behind it is not, since a CSV cell holds one plain value. If you need the URLs, save them in a separate column of the source table first.

Can I convert a table I only have as a PDF?

Yes, with a different input: PDF to CSV rebuilds rows from the text positions in the PDF, which is harder than reading HTML table markup, so check the result more carefully.

The page shows a table but the CSV is empty. Why?

Many dashboards draw their tables with JavaScript after the page loads, so the saved HTML holds only an empty container. Once the data is visible, copy the table from the browser's developer tools (Elements panel, Copy outerHTML) into an .html file, or look for an Export button in the app.
