How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Add the CorelDRAW files

Drop .cdr files into the uploader, up to 20 at a time and 95 MB each. CDT templates and CMX exchange files are read the same way.

  2. 2

    Check resolution and background

Background is preset to Transparent and Resolution to 300 DPI. Lower the resolution to 150 for on-screen use, or switch the background to White if the PNG goes into a document that prints on paper.

  3. 3

    Convert to PNG

Press Convert to PNG and save each image, or the batch as a ZIP. Uploads and results are deleted from the server after 30 minutes.

A CDR file is CorelDRAW's working document: shapes, text, effects and pages in a format only CorelDRAW reads completely. A PNG is the finished picture of one of those pages, drawn at a pixel size you choose and readable everywhere.

Why export CorelDRAW CDR files to PNG

Corel released CorelDRAW in 1989, and it is still a standard tool in sign making, screen printing and engraving. Its CDR format is proprietary and changes with major versions: files from the X4 era onward are compressed packages, and an older CorelDRAW cannot open a newer file unless it was saved down to an earlier version. Inkscape and LibreOffice Draw read many CDR files through the open-source libcdr library, but not every effect or version.

A PNG removes that friction. It is lossless, so lettering and thin outlines stay sharp, and it stores an alpha channel, so a round badge exports as a round badge instead of a circle on a white rectangle. That is why Background is set to Transparent here.

CDR

CorelDRAW drawing

CDR is the native file format of CorelDRAW, a vector graphics editor first released by Corel in 1989. It stores vector shapes, text, layers and multi-page layouts and is widely used in sign making, vinyl cutting, packaging and print shops. The format is proprietary and changes between CorelDRAW versions, so other programs import it only partially. Most viewers, browsers and design apps outside the Corel ecosystem cannot open CDR files.

PNG

Portable Network Graphics

PNG is a lossless raster format published in 1996 by the PNG Development Group and later standardised by the W3C and ISO. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports full alpha transparency and handles text, sharp edges and flat colours without artefacts. That precision makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and interface graphics. The trade-off is size: photographs saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. All browsers, operating systems and editors open PNG files.

Designers export CorelDRAW art to PNG when a client, web developer or print-on-demand site needs a picture of the design with a transparent background and cannot open CDR at all.

Transparent background, colors and line weights

Pixel size comes from the CorelDRAW page, not the objects on it. The whole page is drawn at the chosen Resolution, so anything hanging off the page edge is cut away and empty page space becomes transparent margin.

Leave Colors on Original colors for a logo; Grayscale and Monochrome suit black-and-white ads and engraving stencils. Use line weights keeps outline widths as drawn; off, every outline is one pixel thin.

PNG is an RGB format, so a CMYK print design shifts slightly: most logo reds and blues translate closely, rich blacks and spot colors do not. When the job is print, send CDR to PDF and keep the PNG for screens.

CDR to PNG questions

How many pixels will my CDR to PNG export be?

Multiply the CorelDRAW page size in inches by the Resolution. A US business card page, 3.5 × 2 in, at 300 DPI gives 1050 × 600 px; an A4 page gives 2480 × 3508 px. Halve the resolution and both sides halve too.

Why is my CorelDRAW logo surrounded by empty space in the PNG?

The export follows the page, not the artwork, so a small logo on a Letter-size page sits in a large transparent margin. Shrink the page to fit the artwork in CorelDRAW's page setup before uploading.

Can I open the PNG on a phone without any design software?

Yes. Every major browser, phone gallery and office app shows PNG, which is the main reason to export it. The CDR itself only previews in CorelDRAW and a few viewers.

Do CorelDRAW effects like drop shadows and transparencies survive?

Usually, because a PNG stores the rendered result rather than the effect. Lens effects, complex blends and the newest features are where a non-Corel renderer is most likely to differ, so compare the PNG with the design before sending it.

Is PNG or JPG better for exporting CorelDRAW artwork?

PNG for logos, text, flat color and see-through backgrounds; it is lossless, so edges stay clean. JPG suits photo-heavy layouts and gives smaller files but has no transparency; CDR to JPG is set up for that, and the JPG vs PNG guide compares the two.

Will a print shop accept a PNG made from my CDR?

For small items such as stickers or flyers at 300 DPI, many will. Sign, vinyl and laser work needs the vector original or a PDF, because a PNG cannot be enlarged cleanly or cut along a path.
