Split Image
Cut one picture into equal pieces: a 3 × 3 grid for a profile mosaic, fixed-size tiles for a game or a printer, or a wide panorama into carousel slides that join up when someone swipes.
Split Image
or drop JPG, JPEG, JFIF … files here ·
Max 95 MB per file· Up to 10 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Same as input keeps the original format; PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges.
Applies to JPG and WebP pieces. 90 avoids visible seams where pieces meet when posted side by side.
When the image does not divide evenly by the tile size, keep the smaller pieces on the right and bottom edges or discard them.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload your images
Pick up to 10 JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP or TIFF files of up to 95 MB each; the same grid applies to every image. Larger images give sharper pieces.
- 2
Choose how to split
Under Split by, pick Grid and set Rows and Columns, Tile size with a width and height in pixels, or Carousel with the number of Slides and the Slide shape.
- 3
Split and download
Press Split. All pieces arrive in one ZIP, numbered left to right and top to bottom. The image is deleted from the server after 30 minutes.
One image in, a numbered set of pieces out: grid, tiles or carousel slides, all in a single ZIP.
Image splitter: grid, tiles or carousel
The splitter has three modes under Split by, and each answers a different question. Grid asks how many pieces you want: enter rows and columns from 1 to 20 each, and the image is divided into equal parts, up to 400 pieces. Tile size asks how big each piece should be: enter a width and height in pixels from 16 up, and the image is cut into tiles of that size starting from the top-left corner, the way game sprite sheets and map tiles are laid out. Carousel asks how many slides a panorama should become and does the sizing for you.
Splitting never resizes the picture, so the size of each piece follows from the size of the original. A 3240 × 3240 px image split 3 × 3 gives nine 1080 × 1080 px pieces, the exact width Instagram displays. A smaller source gives smaller pieces; if they need to be bigger, enlarge the image first with the image resizer or crop it to the right shape with crop image.

4-slide carousel, 1:1
four 1080 × 1080 slides
1080 × 1350 px
One 4:5 carousel slide
default Slide shape
For a carousel, the panorama's width should be the number of slides times the slide width, so a three-slide 4:5 carousel wants a source around 3240 px wide. Anything taller than the slide shape is cropped from the top and bottom, so place the horizon and faces near the middle. Instagram allows up to 20 items per carousel, but 3–5 slides is the comfortable range for a panorama; Slides offers 2 to 6.
The output options are short. Output format keeps the original or switches to JPG, PNG or WebP; PNG keeps transparency and the sharp edges of text and graphics. Quality is 90 by default, higher than the other image tools, because neighboring pieces are seen side by side and any difference along the cut would show. Download as ZIP is on by default; turn it off to save pieces one by one. Auto orient and Strip metadata work as in the other tools, so the pieces are upright and carry no location data. What people split images for
Profile mosaics
A 3 × 3 or 3 × 2 grid that forms one big picture on an Instagram profile when posted in reverse order.
Swipeable panoramas
A landscape, a group photo or a timeline that continues across carousel slides.
Posters on home printers
A large picture split 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 and printed on separate sheets, then taped together.
Sprite sheets and tiles
Fixed 32, 64 or 512 px tiles for games, texture packs and map tiles, with leftover edges kept or dropped.
Long screenshots
A tall capture cut into 1 × N strips so each fits a slide, a chat message or a printed page.
Puzzles and worksheets
Pieces for a classroom puzzle, a memory game or a cut-and-paste exercise.
- Start from the largest version of the image you have
- Keep faces and text away from the cut lines
- For a profile grid, post the last piece first
- Use PNG output for graphics with text, JPG for photos
- Check the ZIP numbering: left to right, then top to bottom
Seamless Instagram carousels
One wide panorama cut into slides that swipe as a single picture. Post them as one carousel in ZIP order and keep Slide shape the same for every slide, or the edges stop lining up. Start from an image wide enough that each piece gets at least 1080 px across, or the slides look soft.
Profile grid mosaics
A large image spread across rows of posts on a profile. Use 3 columns, a piece count that is a multiple of three, and post the full set in one session; a single post in between shifts the mosaic by one row.
Posters from a home printer
A big picture printed on several sheets and taped together. Print at 100% with borderless printing if your printer supports it; thin white lines between pieces are the printer's margin, not the file, and can also be trimmed before taping.
Splitting questions
How do I split an image into a grid of equal parts?
Choose Grid, enter the number of Rows and Columns (each from 1 to 20), and press Split. A 3 × 3 grid gives nine pieces, a 1 × 3 grid gives three side-by-side strips, and a 2 × 1 grid cuts a picture into a top and a bottom half.
How do I split an image for Instagram so it fits a 3 × 3 profile grid?
Use Grid with 3 rows and 3 columns and post the pieces in reverse, starting with piece 9 (bottom right) and ending with piece 1, because the profile shows the newest post first. Keep important details away from the edges of each piece, since the profile grid shows posts as 3:4 tiles and trims the sides of square pieces.
How does a seamless carousel split work?
Carousel cuts a wide picture into 2–6 slides of 1080 × 1350 px (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 px (1:1), cropping top and bottom to fit. Upload the slides in order as one carousel post; when someone swipes, the panorama continues from slide to slide.
Does the image splitter reduce quality?
Each piece contains the original pixels for its area. PNG pieces are lossless, and JPG and WebP pieces are saved at Quality 90 by default, high enough that no seams show where the pieces meet when they are posted or printed side by side.
What happens when the image does not divide evenly?
In Grid mode the pieces differ by at most one pixel. In Tile size mode the right and bottom edges may be narrower than the tile; Leftover edges keeps those smaller pieces or discards them.
Can I split a picture to print it across several sheets?
Yes. Use Grid to match the number of sheets, for example 2 × 2 for a poster made of four Letter or A4 pages, and choose PNG for the cleanest print. Each piece can then be printed full page and taped together.
Can I put the pieces back together later?
Yes, the merge images tool joins pieces in a grid with the same number of columns. With Gap at 0 the result looks like the original picture again.
