TIFF to JPG Converter
Shrink heavy TIFF scans and photos into JPGs you can email, upload or open on a phone. Each page of a multi-page TIFF becomes its own JPG, and the DPI your scanner recorded stays in the file.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload .tif or .tiff files
Add up to 20 files, 95 MB each, straight from the scanner folder or an archive drive.
- 2
Keep the page and DPI settings
Animated input is set to Export every frame as a separate file, so every page of a multi-page TIFF is converted. DPI tag at 0 keeps the value the scanner wrote.
- 3
Press Convert to JPG
Single-page files come back as one JPG each; multi-page files come back as numbered JPGs in a ZIP.
TIFF is a storage and print format; JPG is a sharing format. Converting a TIFF to JPG at quality 90 keeps a scan looking the same on screen while cutting it to a fraction of its size.
Convert TIFF to JPG from scanners and fax software
Aldus published the Tagged Image File Format in 1986 so that desktop scanners and page-layout programs could exchange images. Adobe took it over when it bought Aldus in 1994, and the last full revision, TIFF 6.0, dates from 1992. Its flexibility is the reason it is still everywhere in offices: scanner software, fax servers, document management systems and medical and legal archives write TIFF by default.
That flexibility is also why a TIFF can be hard to open. A single file may hold several pages, 16 bits per channel, CMYK color, an alpha channel or a compression scheme the viewer does not know. Phones often show nothing, and mail and upload limits reject uncompressed scans. A JPG is one 8-bit RGB picture that everything opens.

Tagged Image File Format
TIFF was created by Aldus in 1986 and is now maintained by Adobe. It is a flexible container that can store images uncompressed, with lossless LZW or ZIP compression, or with lossy JPEG compression, and it supports layers, multiple pages, high bit depths and transparency. Printers, publishers, scanners and archives rely on it because it preserves full quality and colour information. The downside is very large files and inconsistent support for some of its options between programs. Browsers do not display TIFF, but most image editors and operating system viewers do.

JPEG image
JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

People convert TIFF to JPG because scans and archive photos are too heavy to email or upload and phones will not preview them; going from JPG to TIFF is a print or archive request that rarely adds quality.
Multi-page TIFF to JPG, one file per page
A JPG holds exactly one image, so a multi-page TIFF has to be split. This page does that by default and names the results in page order. If you are converting a stack of 600 DPI archive scans for a website, also set Resize output image to a longest side of around 2000 px; the 300 DPI column above shows how quickly scan dimensions outgrow any screen.
Transparency in a TIFF, which some photo editors save, is filled with white. CMYK files from print workflows are converted to sRGB using the embedded profile. For a lossless editing copy use TIFF to PNG; if you are digitizing paper, read how to scan documents to PDF first.
TIFF compression types and what reaches the JPG
Lossless in the TIFF
- None: raw pixels, largest files
- LZW: common scanner default
- ZIP (Deflate): often smaller than LZW
- PackBits: old, simple run-length coding
Special cases
- CCITT Group 3 and 4: 1-bit fax pages
- JPEG inside TIFF: already lossy, re-encoded once
- 16-bit and 32-bit float: reduced to 8 bits
In every JPG
- 8-bit RGB or grayscale
- Lossy, quality 90 on this page
- One page per file
- No alpha; transparency filled with white
TIFF to JPG: questions about scans and pages
How do I convert a multi-page TIFF to JPG?
Upload it as it is. This page has Animated input set to export every frame, which for a TIFF means every page, so a 12-page fax becomes 12 numbered JPGs. Switch it to First frame only if you only need the cover page.
Why is my TIFF 60 MB when the JPG is under 2 MB?
Scanners often save TIFF uncompressed or with lossless LZW, so every pixel is stored. A letter page scanned in color at 300 DPI is 2550 × 3300 px, about 25 MB of raw pixel data before any extras. JPG at quality 90 discards detail you do not see and typically lands at a tenth of that or less.
Does the scanner's 300 DPI carry over to the JPG?
Yes. With DPI tag at 0 the original value is copied, so the JPG still prints at the right physical size. The DPI number never changes the pixel count; only Resize output image does that.
What happens to a black-and-white fax TIFF?
Fax TIFFs are 1-bit images compressed with CCITT Group 3 or 4, a very compact scheme for text. As JPG they become grayscale and the file often gets bigger, with soft gray edges around letters. For faxes, PDF or PNG is usually the better target.
Will a 16-bit TIFF lose quality as JPG?
It loses bit depth: JPG stores 256 levels per channel instead of 65,536, which is invisible for viewing. Keep the 16-bit TIFF as your master if you will edit exposure or color again.
Should a scanned contract be JPG or PDF?
PDF, if it has several pages or will be signed, printed or filed, because it keeps the pages together in one document. TIFF to PDF does that in one step. JPG suits single pages that go into a chat, a web form or a slide.
